Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP)
In this type of therapy, human and horse therapists work together in a wide range of healing experiences to promote emotional well being and alleviate psychiatric symptoms such as depression, anxiety, confusion and disorganization. EAP is also appropriate for people who are experiencing grief and loss, issues related to abuse, trauma or relationship difficulties at home or work. It can be effective where traditional “talk” therapy is not.
Interacting with our magnificently skilled therapy horses can be immensely therapeutic for the mind, body and spirit, helping people reawaken long-forgotten abilities capable of healing the imbalances of modern life. A licensed mental health professional and specially trained therapy horses facilitate EAP. An appropriately credentialed equine professional may also be present as indicated. Sessions may incorporate a number of mutually respectful equine activities such as handling, grooming, lunging, riding and vaulting, as well as use of art materials, journaling and music. EAP services may be eligible for insurance reimbursement.
